Software Carpentry: Shell and Version Control (Git)

Software Carpentry: Shell and Version Control (Git) In-Person / Online

Would you like to improve your research process by learning how to program with Python and how to be in control of multiple versions of your work, but never had the opportunity to actually learn programming in a structured way?

The VU, UvA, AUMC, HvA, and NWO-I are organizing a Software Carpentry workshop that will help programming novices to gain fundamental software skills. The Software Carpentry workshop is a hybrid 4-half-day, hands-on training that will cover task automation via Shell, version control with Git, and basic programming and data visualization with Python - everything you need to start your research programming career!

The Software Carpentry course is a multi-day event consisting of 4 half-days:

  • Tuesday 02.12.2025 (10:00 - 15:00 CEST)
  • Wednesday 03.12.2025 (10:00 - 15:00 CEST)
  • Thursday 04.12.2025 (10:00 - 15:00 CEST)
  • Friday 05.12.2025 (10:00 - 15:00 CEST)

Completing the whole Software Carpentry course entitles you to 1 EC, distributed by Edubadge.

Please choose if you will be attending online or in person and inform us if you wish to change how you will attend.

IMPORTANT: This event is only for the Shell and Git part of the course, to earn the EC you need to sign up to the first half of the course as well and complete all days.
